My Journey into the World of Quiz Websites
One day, while casually browsing through Flippa, a marketplace where people buy and sell websites, I stumbled upon a variety of sites that caught my attention. Among them, one type stood out: quiz websites. At first glance, these sites seemed simple enough, and as I dived deeper, I realized they had a lot of potential.
They were not only engaging but also offered a unique way to generate revenue. I thought to myself, “I could make one of these – and maybe even make it look a bit cleaner.”
Here is a list of my quiz websites:
quizbros.com – A quiz website for younger people with gaming and such.
quizifyhub.com – This is the oldest, and generated the most revenue.
Understanding the Anatomy of a Quiz Website
Intrigued, I decided to do a deep dive into how these quiz websites were structured. It didn’t take long to figure out that most of them followed a very similar formula. Here’s what I found:
- Short Intro: Each quiz started with a brief introduction, usually around 50 words. This intro was crucial as it set the stage for the quiz and contained the focus keyword that would drive traffic from search engines.
- Image with Alt Text: An image accompanied the intro, and the alt text always included the focus keyword. This not only made the quiz visually appealing but also boosted its SEO value.
- Content Blocks: The intro was followed by three paragraphs of content that delved into the quiz topic. These paragraphs provided valuable information and kept the user engaged while subtly pushing them towards taking the quiz.
- Secondary Image: Another image was placed after the content, this time using a synonym of the focus keyword in the alt text. This further strengthened the SEO of the page.
- The Quiz: Finally, the main event – the quiz itself. It was typically a series of 10-20 questions, designed to keep the user on the site as long as possible.
Why Quiz Websites Work
One of the great things about quiz websites is their ability to retain visitors for a significant amount of time. If your quiz has around 20 questions, you can expect users to stay on the site for about a minute or more.
This dwell time is crucial if you have monetized your site with Google AdSense or Mediavine, as it directly influences your CPM (cost per thousand impressions) and RPM (revenue per thousand impressions). The longer someone stays on your site, the higher these metrics will be, which means more revenue for you.
How to Promote a Quiz Website
Another interesting aspect I discovered was the potential for promoting quiz websites on social media, particularly Pinterest and TikTok. These platforms are perfect for driving traffic to your quizzes because they thrive on visually engaging content and shareability. Creating eye-catching pins on Pinterest or short, engaging videos on TikTok can help your quizzes reach a wider audience. I’ve tried both, and they have done well.
You can also scale up by creating YouTube videos. In fact, I’ve started doing this myself. Outsourcing video creation is quite affordable, with prices ranging from $10 to $20 per video.
These videos can introduce the quiz or discuss the topic, driving even more traffic to your site. What’s more, quizzes are evergreen content, meaning they remain relevant over time, unlike news, which quickly becomes outdated. Discovering a Quiz Empire
As I continued exploring, I stumbled upon something even more interesting. I found someone who had created Pinterest posts that looked the same, but it was five different quiz websites. Each site was practically identical in structure and content, just with different topics. This person had essentially created a quiz empire, using the same template to spam out multiple sites and maximize their reach and revenue. Quite impressive to be honest.
